What a beautiful sight, and no, they’re not lavender fields in Provence – it’s phacelia in Lyonshall, Herefordshire. Our e-Bike tour guests are bowled over by the purple landscape – cycling through fields planted with phacelia, wild kale, millet and quinoa. These were planted under the sadly recently discontinued Sustainable Farming Incentive scheme. Read more about these areas of the estate. We have also planted areas of pollen and nectar mix, providing insect habitat and winter food for birds. It is a beautiful time of year to visit Herefordshire – especially this year with the sunshine. Guests are seen breakfasting in the garden, taking a dip in the pool, going for long walks with their dogs or bike rides. They often like to finish the day with a sundowner in the garden hot-tub. July is just a wonderful time to visit us and stroll through the purple fields of Herefordshire.
In other news, there is more purple to be seen in fields where blackcurrant harvesting is ongoing in the heat. Great news for Ribena and British Cassis lovers.
