How We Farm

Family owned Whittern Farms on the Herefordshire Welsh Borders is much more than a farm, an estate or an agribusiness. Although it is all of these, it is moreover a community. This community lives and works around the hamlet of the Whittern and Next End Farm.

The fruit of the farm: Cider apples, blackcurrants & vines

Nestled in the rolling hills of verdant North Herefordshire, the Whittern Estate is an historic farm with a passion for contemporary decadence. Once a mixed arable farm, the family chose to take the road less travelled: cultivating blackcurrants, a quintessential flavour of the British countryside.

Whittern Farms
Environmentally enriched poultry farming

We raise poultry on a large scale under “environmentally enriched” conditions, with chickens being given more space than in conventional chicken farming, and having access to fresh shavings bales and items to peck at for stimulation.  Feed and water are on demand and sheds are continuously ventilated.  We follow all environmental protocols, and all sheds are heated with renewable energy (Biomass).
