Today is World Mental Health Day 2025. This year’s theme is access to services – mental health in catastrophes and emergencies. The theme highlights the importance of people being able to protect their mental health whatever they’re going through. Sadly, farming is one of the industries with an above average incidence of mental health issues and even suicide. The reasons for this are many and include isolation on small farms, increasing financial pressures, physical exhaustion from long hours, loneliness, poor access to public services. At White Heron Estate, one of the charities we regularly support is We Are Farming Minds, aimed at raising awareness of these issues, and reaching out to farmers in isolated rural communities who are struggling with mental health issueFe
Feeling connected to people and to nature is widely held to be beneficial to mental health. The beautiful countryside of Herefordshire is the perfect place to immerse oneself in nature, whether by taking a country walk or just breathing in the fresh air. World Mental Health Day is a good time to to get out and breath and walk!
